Welcome to my website (or “blog”, if you must). This site is a place for me to spew forth about whatever is currently holding my interest or occupying my time. Much of the writing will be related to Antarctica and working in Antarctica as it seems that that is what I seem to spend most of my time doing. There may also be a smattering of travel related articles as that is what I hope to be doing when I’m not at my job in Antarctica. On a less frequent basis, you may also see a political rant of one type or another. Usually these will be of little value but will provide the reader with an insight to what is currently pushing my buttons.

You might also check out the photo galleries for pictures of Antarctica, or peruse the site in search of high definition footage of Antarctica. Some of the photos in the galleries are mine, but most of the good ones – especially the good Antarctic photos were shamelessly ripped from the I-drive (a network drive that is shared between United States Antarctic Program participants). I try to give proper photo credit when I can. I also try to NOT watermark photos that I know someone besides myself took, but this doesn’t always work out so well as much of the work on this site ends up getting done in an alcohol-fueled daze.

The site itself also serves as a showcase for some of my tech related hobbies and interests. I have used a variety of tools and bits of code to build the site. The site itself is powered by wordpress and much of the functionality that you see relies on various plugins for wordpress and other pre-existing code snippets that I have managed to hack together into what is usually a harmoniously functioning site. A couple of points that I am trying to make here:

• though you may notice long periods of time with no apparent updates, look a little closer. It may be that I have tried or am in the process of trying to add some slick-ass new functionality which I really enjoy doing and will, hopefully enhance the user’s experience
• I’ve learned a lot of mad skills in the process of building and maintaining this site. If you’d like a site built that has similar functionality – well, it’s fairly likely that I’d be up for helping you out as I really enjoy doing this type of work AND I could probably use the money.
