Alternative Jobs: Signal Mountain Lodge
Contract & Seasonal Jobs, Income & Jobs
What do you mean by Alternative Jobs?
Over the past several years I have become a huge fan of seasonal employment. It’s a really great feeling knowing that your job has an end date and you’ll be free to do….whatever it is you like to do when you’re not working. Another benefit of seasonal work is often employer provided housing, transport and meals. This isn’t the case in all seasonal gigs but most offer one or more of the three.
This week’s highlighted employer is Signal Mountain Lodge on the shores of the stunningly beautiful Jackson Lake in Grand Teton National Park, WY.
The housing isn’t free, but the paltry sum of $82/week will get you a room (w/roomate), private bath, utilities and three meals per day. Considering the fact that the land here isn’t for sale so no matter how much money you had, you couldn’t buy a house here…$82/week makes priceless affordable! Oh! and there’s WiFi.
Nearly all of the jobs through Signal Mountain Lodge are in the area of customer service, food service and retail so no special skills or education are required. If you’re assuming that these positions are filled mostly by young people, you would be correct, but there’s room for all ages on the staff.
The lodge operates 79 guest units, 2 restaurants, 2 gift stores, a bar, a convenience store, 2 marinas and 2 campgrounds. Employees can expect to be assigned to any of these areas based on the position they are hired for. The summer season runs from May through October and hiring preference is given to those who can commit for the entire season.
Right about now, you’re thinking this sounds like a crap job right? Just like anything else in life, you get out of it what you put in to it. If you happen to be an outdoor recreation enthusiast but can never find enough time to enjoy – this might be an ideal place to work as Jackson Hole offers some of the best hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing and climbing in the U.S. If you’re a long term traveler and need to earn some quick cash for the next leg of your journey, why not spend a summer with fun people in this beautiful place?
