Sensationalism in journalism? It’s more likely than you think.

Nomadic Lifestyle

Ever seen the movie “Virus”? If not, the basic premise is that there is some sort of viral outbreak and the only people safe from the virus happen to be at Palmer Station, Antarctica. The recent news of swine flu have led to some fun conversations about how we’re safe from it here….But we’re not safe from the sensationalism of the news media. This morning’s headline “From a Mexican Boy With the Flu, Coughs Heard Around the World” was just too fucking much! That said, imagine my delight when this showed up in my inbox just a few minutes ago:

A product of media hype. “sigh”. In truth, what’s more scary is the big C which claims thousands of lives. Just check the number of affected people from his swine flue around the world -less than a thousand…can you consider this pandemic? for me, nope. Mere warning the people of the importance of correct hygiene will prevent the spread of the virus.
