The Trip to Palmer Station – Step 2: Page, AZ

Nomadic Lifestyle

After we were done at fire school, the ten of us loaded up in two vans and a car and drove to Page, AZ. The trip itself took us through some spectacular scenery. We went west through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, then south to Moab, UT where we overnighted.

Early the next morning we all took a hike to the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. The final push to Page took us through Utah’s Monument Valley as well as some other stunningly gorgeous landscape. This was a part of the country I had never seen before and it made me really stop and wonder why I spend all of this time planning and subsequently traveling to exotic places in the world when there is so much beauty and wonder contained in the vastness of my own country. I was actually inspired to, at some point, plan a road trip through North America.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to stop at “The Hole in the Rock”. Apparently, some rather eccentric gentleman and his wife blasted out a massive cave in one of the big rocks just outside of Moab, UT and converted it into their home. The home boasts 5,000 square feet of living space. The couple have long since passed and their home, along with the grounds around of it have become a sort of showcase of Americana, a truly unique and quirky roadside destination.
