About Unique Hotels of The World

Ah…the romance of the rails – the nostalgia – a steaming hot serving of Americana. Spending a night (or more) in a caboose offers all of that and more.

The Woodrow House, Lubbock, TX – Santa Fe Caboose

The Unique Hotels of the World series is intended to showcase lodging and accommodation that is…well, a departure from the norm. With the prices of even “budget hotels” steadily creeping up, you may as well get a special experience for your lodging dollar.

A quick google search brought up several B&B’s that have cabooses that you can stay in all across the U.S. The particularly charming one showcased here is brought to you by the Woodrow House Bed & Breakfast in Lubbock, TX and comes very well reviewed by Marsha.

This well-appointed caboose comes with all the comforts of home. It’s amenities include a queen size bed and a kitchenette complete with refrigerator, microwave and brass sink. It has its own telephone and high speed wireless internet. Currently the nightly rate is between $115 and $155 with the lower rates falling on weekday stays.

If you’re in the Pacific northwest and want a special lodging experience in a caboose, you might check out Red Caboose Getaway which is located approximately 2 hours west of Seattle near Sequim, WA and has four cabooses and a dining where breakfast is served in old-fashioned elegance.

In Nice, CA (pronounced niece) you can find the Featherbed Railroad Caboose Bed and Breakfast. This B&B features nine restored railroad cabooses with private, in-caboose jacuzzis.

In Cajun Country – Sunset, LA you might be able to book a night with the La Caboose Bed and Breakfast. Here you can stay in a restored Southern Pacific caboose.

There seems to be a variety of caboose themed B&Bs across America. Next time you’re out, why don’t you give one of these unique lodging opportunities a try?
