About Unique Hotels of The World

I know, I know…yurts aren’t hotels…so file this one under alternative lodging or something, but I’m not starting a whole new category so that everything gets its own label. Yurts (or gers as they’re known in Mongolia and elsewhere) have long been favored by people living the nomadic lifestyle. The idea of staying the night in one isn’t new, not even in the U.S. For many years there have been yurts in the backcountry in many states. They’ve oft been a favorite of people on ski tours and on summer hikes. More and more yurts are popping up in campgrounds and parks across America. Staying in a yurt offers the affordability of camping without the hassle of setting up a tent or driving some behemoth RV from campsite to campsite. Also, many municipal, county and state parks seem to be putting them up on their lands and these lands tend to be set off in some of the most scenic and secluded places; tiny refuges from the hustle bustle of everyday life and devoid of the noise of a traditional hotel.

There seems to be an especially high concentration of yurts along the west coast of the U.S. Many of these yurts offer stunning views of beautiful coastline and if you’re staying in off peak times (pretty much any time other than the weekend or around holidays) the parks that they’re in are usually exceptionally peaceful.

How do you find a yurt to stay in?

Use google to find parks in the area you wish to stay in and visit their home page to get more information on what type of camping/lodging might be available at each of their parks. With this information in hand give ‘em a call and make a reservation. If you seek a yurt outside of the U.S. google is still a great resource just combine yurt with the area you will be staying in in your query.

What are you waiting for? Go get your yurt experience. Happy travels!
