Unusual Hotels of the World: Plane Hotel, Waitomo New Zealand
About Unusual Hotels of The World
From the same people who brought you the Hobbit Hotel in Waitomo, New Zealand comes this vintage aircraft converted into a two room, self-contained hotel.
Located on New Zealand’s north island, amongst ruggedly beautiful volcanic landscapes and near the Waitomo caves is the Woodlyn Park complex. Formerly a working farm, Woodlyn Park now boasts being a unique tourist destination, offering several unusual accommodation options for tourists and travelers to New Zealand
The Plane is a 1950′s Bristol freighter and was one of the last allied aircraft out of Viet Nam. There are two rooms in the plane – the tail section which fetches $150 (NZD) per night/couple or the cockpit section for $160 (NZD), certainly more of a bargain than other airplane hotels. The cockpit section does come equipped with a ladder for access to the cockpit and is not recommended for children under seven.
Woodlyn Park features many other attractions besides its bevy of unique motels. The Billy Black Kiwi culture show gives some hilarious and educational insight into life in New Zealand as some know it. Nearby the Woodlyn Park complex are the Waitomo caves and glowworm caves.
For more information visit Woodlyn Park’s website.
